The proposed building has been developed in tandem with the Club Committee. The proposed community building is a replacement for the existing club house which was dated and no longer fit for purpose. We worked closely with the club and its members through various community engagement events, to develop the brief that informed the building form. The intention was to create a building that served all of its members in a flexible engaging way. The members wish to cater for all age groups and create a building that represented the community and is an outward reflection of the organisation.
The building entrance is highlighted with the use of a large overhang that acts as a visual marker. The internal spaces were arranged around a central core that was developed to encourage interaction and activity. A viewing gallery was developed at first floor level with a link to a first floor external play area. The material choice and associated detailing is robust and appropriate to present a lasting visual representation of the club and its members’ ideology.
